Happy Grandparents Day

Isn’t it funny that when you have children your parents morph into this foreign being that is so cute and cuddly and all of sudden there are no rules anymore. It’s all about no sleep, lots of sugar and days of “you can do whatever you want” with grandma and grandpa.

Caleb will often stay with my parents for the summer or for other school holidays and when it’s time to come home, he always cries leaving them. I get so frustrated with him and have to always remind him of where he lives and with whom. Last year, when my grandmother got really sick I remember clinging on to her and crying, I don’t want to leave you, I want to stay with you forever.

When I was a little girl, we used to live down the street from my grandparents. So every day after school I would walk to their home or I would stay with them as much as I possibly could. Once, I couldn’t have been any older than 6, I was angry at my mom for whatever reason and I packed my little purse and was planning to run away from home. She asked where I was going and I told her to my Lala’s house. Of course I didn’t make it there because I couldn’t cross the street by myself. Any time I was in trouble, I would cry for my Lala to come and save me. So last fall when I cried for my Lala, I finally understood how Caleb felt every time he left his Wela & Welo. I told him, from this point on I will never scold you for crying for them ever again.

I finally understood the bond that grandparents have with the grandkids. It’s so special. Grandparents have a very soft and special place in their hearts for their grandkids.

Today I can honestly say that I love my parents more now then I have ever loved them. And I sure as heck appreciate them more now too. There are a million and one reasons why my parents are so incredible. They love and serve God with all of their hearts first of all. And because they love God, they truly and genuinely love people. They have hearts that are so pure and honest. They are selfless and caring. They are hospitable and giving. The list can go on and on.

Looking back on my childhood & teenage years, I am so grateful that my parents never stopped praying for me. I know this is hard to believe but I wasn’t exactly the best well-behaved daughter. I know, shocker right. But growing up in a Christian home, with a praying mother & father is the reason why I am who I am today. And I am so blessed to know that it’s because of the life that they lived and are living, I get to show my children who God is too.

Thank you mom & dad for being such awesome parents. But thank you for being even better grandparents. Happy Grandparents day Wela & Welo! xoxo
